Hair Donation #5!!!

Hey readers!
It's my FIFTH time donating my hair and I wanted to share it with you! I've been growing my hair out for a little over a year, and have been fighting cutting it because I want it long for my wedding in September (but my hair grows fast so I think I am good). I've been using Tresemme Split Remedy for my hair instead of getting it trimmed on a regular basis (but I'm lucky that I have surprisingly healthy hair). Anyways, I've donated my hair twice to Locks of Love and twice to Pantene Pro V Beautiful Lengths. Over the years, I've heard mixed reviews about Locks of Love, so I switched to Pantene. I also prefer Pantene because they only require 8 inches to donate whereas Locks of Love requires 10 inches (click on the links to see the requirements). By the way, a lot of salons won't do the donations for you anymore, so you may want to bring a plastic zip lock bag with you to put your hair in after. 


Tied my hair so that 9 inches can be cut, just in case


I got 8 months until my wedding to grow it out again.

This is my favorite way to donate because I literally do nothing and get a fun makeover in the process.

Simple Tequila Cocktail

Last night was my company holiday party, and I must say my go-to drink order was so much of a success with co-workers that I decided to share. It's really simple, not many people think of it, and sometimes you want a break from wine. Enjoy!

Tequila with Cranberry Juice:
1 part blanco/silver tequila
2 parts cranberry juice
1 lime wedge/slice
ice is optional

Carrot Muffins

Step 1: Distract your bunny so you can use their carrots for baking.

Benny likes helping with gift wrapping

2 cups grated carrot
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1 cup white sugar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line with muffin pan with baking cups. 
2. Sift together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
3. Beat the eggs and sugar until frothy and lightened in color. 
4. Stir in the oil, vanilla, and grated carrot. 
5. Fold in the flour mixture. 
6. Pour the batter into muffin tins, ~2/3 full.
7. Bake 15 to 20 min. Let cool on wire racks 1-2 min.

Optional: Cream Cheese Frosting
1/2 cup of butter, room temperature
8 oz of Philly cream cheese, room temperature
2 - 3 cups of Confectioner's sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1. Cream butter and cream cheese together on medium speed for about 3 minutes or until smooth. 
2. Add vanilla and mix. Slowly add the sugar. Keep adding until you get to desired sweetness and thickness.
3. Frost and chill until ready to serve.

Enjoy with a cup of coffee
(I like mine without cream cheese frosting)

Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String....

Hi All! 2 posts in 2 days! This girl is on fire! Too many exclamation points? Nah...

Anyways, during the holiday season I got creative with the only wrapping materials that I had on hand... 

Brown Paper Packaging
Black Ink Pad
Rubber Stamps
Tags (I got mine at Target)

I stamped "Home Sweet Home" because
this gift was for a shower for someone
who lost their home to
hurricane Sandy :(
Another thing to do (if you have lots of time): For a wedding I wrote in cursive, "Live, Laugh, Love" over and over again until I filled up the paper. Unfortunately, there is no picture.

Homemade Mac-n-Cheese

Happy New Year! Nothing like starting off the new year with some homemade mac-n-cheese.

2 cups elbow macaroni
5 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup unbleached flour
2 cups milk
1 cup Vermont sharp white cheddar cheese, grated
salt & pepper
4 oz Velveeta cheese, cubed
1/2 cup golden round crackers, crumbled
Cooking spray

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease shallow 2 quart baking dish (Temptations are perfect for this).

Cook macaroni in salted water according to boxed directions.

Prep ingredients while macaroni is cooking:
Grate 1 cup of VT sharp cheddar

Make 1/2 inch cubes of 4oz Velveeta cheese

Crumble 1/2 cup crackers

Let macaroni drain while you make the cheese sauce: 
In large sauce pan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Whisk in flour until thick. Add milk and stir until thickened (I used skim milk which took longer to thicken, but still worked). Add cheddar cheese until it melts. Season with salt and pepper. Add Velveeta, but don't let it melt completely. 

Add macaroni to the greased baking dish. Pour sauce over it and stir to mix. Sprinkle crackers over the top and dot with remaining butter. 

Bake 20-25 minutes or until brown and bubbly.
